CIRA announces winners of the ShowUsYour.CA contest

Ottawa, April 6, 2010 – The Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA) is pleased to announce that ArtSchoolReviews.ca submitted the winning video in the ShowUsYour.CA contest. ‘ArtSchoolReviews.ca Loves Our .CA’ was chosen by public voting as the favourite video of the contest, and will receive a MacBook Pro and be featured in a future .CA marketing campaign.

ArtSchoolReviews, which is run by three young designers from Vancouver, helps artists and designers find art school programs in Canada by providing an online forum for students and alumni to voice their opinions, concerns, support, or endorsements for the art school programs. In their video, ArtSchoolReviews highlight the fact that a .CA domain name makes their website identifiably Canadian, that they were able to get a great website address and that they get targeted Internet traffic from around the world because of their .CA.

The first runner up in the contest is ‘DringDring.ca’. Dringdring is a Montreal company founded by Annie Legroulx that produces and sells original hand-painted metal bicycle bells. Dringdring.ca will receive a 64GB iPod touch. ‘Portable Radio’s .CA Rocks’, a video about a podcast  produced by a group of grade five students in Ottawa, was the second runner up and will receive a Flip UltraHD camcorder.

CIRA received 95 video submissions in the ShowUsYour.CA contest, closely reflecting the geographic and cultural diversity of Canada. Musicians, graphic designers, bloggers, small and medium-sized businesses, and individuals all took the ShowUsYour.CA contest as an opportunity to create a video celebrating their .CA websites.

CIRA accepted video submissions from February 23 to March 15, 2010. A panel of judges, including CIRA staff and Rebecca Harris, Managing Editor for Marketing Magazine (http://www.marketingmag.ca/) shortlisted the videos to the final eight. From March 19 to March 26, 2010, the public then had the opportunity to vote for their favourite among the shortlisted videos.
