Creative Talent: From Small Town to Nationwide with One Website
My name is Matt Wiebe and my website is www.somadesign.ca.
My .ca domain is used to promote my freelance web design company, Soma Design. My wife and I spent a long time brainstorming what to name it before hitting upon Soma Design. After checking both the dot-com and dot-net extensions, we realized that we should go with dot-ca and position ourselves as uniquely Canadian.
It is important that Soma Design differentiate itself from all the other design companies online. Our audience continues to expand and grow because our customers have an easy time finding Soma Design. I know that Canadians have no problem finding us—my dot-ca status has given me a number two ranking on a google.ca! This completely exceeded my expectations and has made me realize that I should be using .ca for all my future websites and recommending it to my Canadian clients.
I hope to be able to grow the audience for my built-in blog and increase the profile of my web design shop as a leading voice in promoting forward-looking websites. Big dreams, to be sure, but my dot-ca domain will help me realize them.
