Highlights from Canadians Connected 2022
On September 15, for the first time in two years, CIRA hosted Canadians Connected 2022 virtually and in-person. Just over 400 members and non-members joined in for an afternoon of presentations emceed by Amber Mac. The event featured a conversation between Mac and technology activist, author and journalist, Cory Doctorow, about the intriguing topic of Surveillance Capitalism—big-tech’s monopoly on user’s data.
Jill Kowalchuk, CIRA’s new Chair of the board of directors, and CIRA’s President and CEO, Byron Holland shared updates highlighting CIRA’s accomplishments from the past year and how we, along with your help, are working to enable a trusted internet for Canadians.
Members also had the opportunity to participate in CIRA governance during the formal AGM proceedings, offering insightful questions and comments throughout along with their votes on motions.
Thank you to all the CIRA members who participated. Your attendance and engagement contributed to the success of the event and we appreciate your continued support.
On behalf of each attendee, CIRA will be donating $4,070 to United Way Canada.
