Imagine for a moment that you woke up tomorrow and your internet wasn't working - not on your home computer, not at work and not on your mobile. Getting online is no longer an option. How would this disrupt your day-to-day life? I can safely say that my life would change dramatically. And I'm not alone.

Today, CIRA released Canada's Internet Factbook, which showcases data about Canada's internet and Canadians' online habits, perceptions and experiences. It offers a look at Canada's internet - how we use it and access it, what we need from it and what concerns us about it.

Where do you fit in?

Are you among the 46 per cent of Canadians who would give up fast food for a year rather than lose the internet? I know I fall into that category. Others are more hardcore than I - with one per cent noting they'd even give up showering for a year in the same scenario. Wow.

Have you headed online to shop in the last year? You're not alone; 82 per cent of Canadians say they have, and 4-in-10 prefer to shop online rather than at a store. I've certainly experienced that shift for myself in recent years. The internet has made holiday shopping less stressful for me.

Are you among the nearly three-quarters of Canadians who spend three to four hours online every day? I've never calculated it for myself, but that sounds about right. Between work, social media, banking, reading the news and watching Netflix, it's easy to rack up time spent online.
