CIRA plays an important role in Canada’s digital infrastructure. It is best known for managing the .CA domain, but its work goes well beyond that. Through stewardship of .CA, cybersecurity services, public-interest programs, and leadership in Internet governance, CIRA helps build a safer, more trusted, and more resilient Internet for Canadians. I want to serve on the Board because that mission feels like a natural fit with both my experience and my values. I care about the future of the Internet in Canada and about the role strong governance plays in serving the public interest. With more than 25 years of executive and board experience across finance, governance, legal affairs, risk management, compliance, and strategy, I believe I could contribute thoughtful oversight, sound judgment, and a practical, collegial approach to CIRA’s work.

One example I would point to is my role in helping lead a significant redesign of an organization’s strategic planning process. At the time, the organization was operating in a complex and fast-changing environment, and it was clear that the planning process needed to become more focused, disciplined, and responsive. As the lead of the Strategic Planning Task Force, I worked closely with the Board, management, and an external consulting firm to rethink how strategy was developed, discussed, and monitored.

My contribution was to help bring more structure and stronger governance discipline to the process. That included clarifying strategic priorities, strengthening the connection between strategy, risk, and resource allocation, and creating a more practical framework for reporting on progress, performance, and accountability. I also helped ensure the process was collaborative and grounded in the organization’s mission, while still giving the Board the information it needed for effective oversight.

The outcome was a more coherent, useful, and repeatable planning process—one that improved alignment between management and the Board, supported better decision-making, and gave the organization a stronger foundation for navigating change.

Over the next 3-5 years, I see three closely connected priorities for CIRA: staying ahead of growing cyber threats, ensuring .CA and related services remain strong and relevant, and maintaining public trust while advancing inclusion and policy leadership. All three will require careful oversight, sound judgment, and clear priorities. Through my work at CANARIE and on other boards, I have seen how important it is to approach cyber risk in a way that is practical, forward-looking, and tied to strategy. I also bring experience helping organizations manage growth and change while keeping financial sustainability and long-term purpose in view. Just as importantly, I bring experience in Internet governance and multistakeholder environments, along with a strong commitment to accessibility, trust, and the public interest. I believe those experiences would allow me to contribute thoughtfully to CIRA’s work as it navigates a period of greater complexity and real opportunity.
