THE PROJECT

Like many remote communities across Canada, Bridge River Valley found itself on the difficult side of the digital divide, where access to reliable high-speed internet is limited or non-existent due to insufficient infrastructure investment and the high costs to deliver it to these areas. With a growing population and big tourism industry, residents, home-based businesses and tourism operators throughout these communities needed reliable internet service. Minto Communications Society, a member-based non-profit ISP, received funding from CIRA to improve internet infrastructure for five remote communities in upper Bridge River Valley.

COMMUNITY IMPACT

The region is now receiving high-speed internet service. Among the many benefits of improved internet access, people in the area have access to distance learning, financial services like online banking and telehealth, making a big impact on the social development, education, and economic opportunities for residents.
