At CIRA, our mission is to build a trusted internet for Canadians, and CIRA Labs is always on the lookout for new ways to accomplish this task.
CIRA Labs is an innovation hub that develops new solutions that can help build a secure, trusted, and accessible internet for Canadians both domestically and abroad.
We research and develop new technologies that help increase the security and resilience of the internet; mitigate and respond to cyber-attacks; and support new network, data, and security standards around the world.

CIRA Labs has two active projects, both centered on the growing realm of IoT security: CIRA Secure IoT Registry and CIRA Secure Home Gateway.

CIRA Secure IoT Registry
The Internet of Things (IoT) has brought about a revolution in everything from how our cities are run to the core of Canada’s manufacturing sector. However, connected devices represent not only a tremendous opportunity for increased efficiency but also a new security risk.
CIRA Secure IoT Registry was developed to help address this risk, informed by CIRA’s decade of experience in managing the .CA domain name registry. CIRA Secure IoT Registry offers zero-touch device identity management for enterprise IoT deployments. This project is a core element of the TELUS L-SPARK Medtech Accelerator which aims to promote IoT innovation in Canada’s medical technology sector.

CIRA Secure Home Gateway
Our homes have become increasingly connected as the Internet of Things (IoT) encompasses everything from lightbulbs to security cameras. This increased convenience comes with a cost: higher cybersecurity risk.
With this in mind, we are developing CIRA Secure Home Gateway to help mitigate the risks these devices pose to home users and their networks as well as the internet as a whole (including .CA).
