CIRA update on COVID-19

By Josh Tabish
Public Affairs Manager

Due to growing concern over the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus), CIRA is taking concrete action to help curb the spread of the virus while ensuring continuity of service for our users and customers.

Right now our top priority is the health and wellness of our employees, and the safe, secure and trusted operations of .CA and our Registry, cybersecurity and DNS operations.

To help curb the spread of COVID-19, we have closed the CIRA office. All of our staff are now working remotely to increase social distancing, and our human resources team has put new protocols in place to monitor any employees who become ill or who have recently traveled abroad.

We have also suspended all business travel until further notice, following the Government of Canada’s recommendation to avoid unnecessary travel.

CIRA takes its responsibility to run mission critical infrastructure on behalf of Canadians very seriously. As Canada’s top level domain operator, we recognize that there can be no room for error.

We remain committed to the highest quality of service and 100% uptime for everyone who relies on our network. To ensure this, we have implemented heightened monitoring for all of our Registry and DNS functions, including our D-Zone Anycast, DNS Firewall, and Cybersecurity Awareness Training services.

We are confident that these operational changes will help keep our staff safe and ensure full continuity for the .CA domain and underlying DNS.

We know that this is a difficult and dynamic time for everyone in and outside of CIRA’s network. We will continue to monitor the situation and will adjust our business contingency plans as needed. If you have any questions or concerns please reach out to our support team here or at [email protected].

In the meantime we encourage everyone to follow advice from the Government of Canada on how to curb the spread of COVID-19.
