How do we make sure the tools and technologies that bring enormous opportunity to Canadians are accessible to everyone?

At the upcoming Cyber Summit 2017 in Banff, technology leaders from around the country will be discussing how to close the gaps that continue to hold some sectors of Canadian society back from the digital revolution.

As part of CIRA’s mandate to build a better online Canada, addressing this digital divide is a major focus, and the inspiration behind many of our innovations. The summit’s theme is inspired by the William Gibson quote “The future is already here — it’s just not very evenly distributed,” which highlights the difficulty in ensuring the benefits of innovation are accessible to all.

From ensuring Canadians have a quality internet connection with CIRA’s Internet Performance test; to helping protect small businesses from ransomware with D-Zone DNS Firewall; CIRA promotes technology that improves digital accessibility.

CIRA is proud to be a sponsor of Cyber Summit 2017, and Shawn Beaton, representing Business Development for Cybersecurity Cloud Services at CIRA, will be introducing Timothy Lee, teacher and digital communicator, and his presentation, 10 Tech Rules For Schools.

Cybersecurity for educational institutions is a major focus for CIRA, including a recent partnership with Cybera, Alberta’s not-for-profit technology accelerator, to offer new high-performance DNS services for Alberta’s public and education sectors.

Cyber Summit 2017 features many influential technology speakers such as Greg Wyler, Founder & Executive Chairman, OneWeb, Heather Payne, Founder, Ladies Learning Code, and Huda Idrees, Founder and CEO, Dot Health, who will address how to close technological gaps in Canada.
