THE PROJECT

One of the ways the Niagara Falls Public Library bridges the digital divide faced by members in the community is by providing free WiFi and computer access. To expand their WiFi and develop a new laptop loaning service, they used CIRA funding to purchase new network equipment, Chromebooks and public access workstations.

COMMUNITY IMPACT

With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the new equipment was repurposed to allow staff to continue delivering vital services to clients via curbside pickup and was made available to the public when the library doors officially reopened. This project ensured the growing number of individuals who lack equipment or connectivity could access critical online services, especially key during the pandemic.
