THE PROJECT
Technology and internet connectivity are significant challenges for Indigenous postsecondary learners who live on reserves and in rural communities. With a grant from CIRA, Indigenous Students Services piloted a Pop-Up Study Hall to provide internet connectivity for students at Mohawk College and Six Nations Polytechnic during the pandemic.
COMMUNITY IMPACT
Due to the challenges of the pandemic and school closures, they found unexpected beneficiaries of this space – community members who attended community events like beading workshops, and staff and faculty who found the Pop-Up Study Hall to be an accessible location to work and hold meetings.
