THE PROJECT
McGill’s project by the Platial Analysis Lab aimed to address online safety and privacy concerns by developing an interactive educational resource, LocatED, that demonstrates how the information youth share online can lead to the identification of individuals through exposing their locations.
COMMUNITY IMPACT
Models were developed to predict a user’s location given their online activity and are being made available to the public to raise awareness of location privacy concerns. In parallel to the LocatED platform, they also developed a web-based privacy-preserving location sharing tool, PrivyTo, to allow individuals to share their location with friends, family, and the public safely and securely.
