THE PROJECT
Lack of access to the internet is a major challenge for unhoused people, creating barriers to learning life skills, identifying social support programs, accessing housing and job opportunities and connecting with loved ones. The Lighthouse in Orillia identified the need to improve internet access at the shelter they operate. CIRA funding was used to purchase equipment and set up workstations, as well as provide training on effective and safe use of the internet.
COMMUNITY IMPACT
The workstations have been popular with the shelter’s clients, providing vulnerable and underserved individuals with increased digital skills while supporting their ability to stay connected and access critical support services and economic opportunities.
