THE PROJECT
Naut’sa mawt Tribal Council is a non-profit society that serves 11 Coast Salish member First Nations. They developed Before Vancouver, an internet technology training program, to help Indigenous students create a virtual reality experience of their traditional villages.
COMMUNITY IMPACT
Students at Native Education College’s summer camps gained skills in 3D modeling software while they brought their heritage and history to life. 86% of attendees left the program having a greater awareness of what Vancouver was like before colonialism, and many students gained an interest in using their new skills to explore careers Vancouver’s animation and design industry.
