CIRA has long been an advocate and supporter of the expansion of Canadian Internet Exchange Points, which are crucial components of the internet ecosystem that help make Canada’s internet faster and more resilient. The Saskatoon Internet Exchange (YXEIX) grew to the point where they required additional peering locations to meet the needs of their users and increase their connectivity.
This program succeeded in connecting two new peer sites and surpassed the network growth initially anticipated, providing over 9,000 people in rural Saskatchewan with an improved internet exchange landscape, increasing the transfer speed of internet communications for businesses and members of the community and improving the resiliency of the internet in Saskatchewan and Canada as a whole.
