Be a part of the CIRA community: Membership benefits

Your .CA domain name is your brand in the Internet's digital village. It also makes you part of Canada's Internet community of people who, like you, have an interest in making the internet work for them.

Your .CA domain name is your brand in the Internet’s digital village. It also makes you part of Canada’s Internet community of people who, like you, have an interest in making the internet work for them. CIRA is a Member-based, not-for-profit organization that is best known for managing the world-class .CA domain name Registry and developing new products and programs that help build a better online Canada.

What are the benefits of becoming a CIRA Member?

Whether you are thinking about becoming a CIRA Member, or have been a Member for a while and are looking for ways to take your membership to the next level, here are some ways you can be a champion with your membership.

Participate in CIRA’s corporate governance

CIRA Members help influence Canada’s digital future by getting involved in CIRA’s corporate governance. This includes showing support for election candidates, becoming a candidate for election to the board, applying to be a part of the Nominating Committee, voting in the board of directors election, and actively participating in CIRA’s Annual General Meeting.

Attend an event near you

CIRA hosts meet-ups across the country to give Members a chance to network, discuss the state of the Internet, and hear from a guest speaker. These events are free of charge and are a great way to connect with CIRA staff, board members, and a community of like-minded CIRA Members who care about the future of Canada’s Internet.

CIRA also hosts Canadians Connected: CIRA Symposium and Annual General Meeting—a prominent Internet event in Canada. In addition to an exciting lineup of industry-leading keynote speakers, CIRA presents its accomplishments from the past year, industry developments and statistics, future plans, audited financial statements and the auditor’s report to its membership. This event is another opportunity to take an active role in CIRA governance by asking questions to board members, voting on items of business such as changes to bylaws and approving CIRA’s auditor for the coming year.

Complete membership surveys

Member feedback is important to CIRA. Occasionally we will circulate surveys to Members when we are considering changing a policy or implementing a new process, or want to consult Members on their Membership experience.

Have a say in the development of the Internet worldwide

CIRA is directly involved in international organizations and events that bring together the technical community, governments, civil society, and the private sector to help shape the development of the Internet worldwide. Members can get involved in this area by following industry developments through ICANN meeting news and articles, by reading Byron’s blog and by following news/articles about issues related to the international governance of the internet (tip: our Twitter account @CIRANews is a good source for this type of news).

Get the quarterly newsletter

Each quarter you’ll get an email delivered to your inbox that includes CIRA news and updates. We share updates on CIRA’s latest initiatives, industry trends, and Internet-related issues that affect Canadians every day.

Whether you use the Internet for work or play (or both!), CIRA Membership offers you a voice in the development of the Internet in Canada and an impact on the everyday lives of Canadians. Thank you to those of you who are active Members – help us continue to build our Member community by talking to your friends, family, colleagues and business partners about .CA and Membership. Share with them the benefits of choosing .CA and why membership is important. Encourage them to contribute to building a better online Canada by registering a .CA domain and becoming a CIRA Member.

How do you become a CIRA Member?

Membership starts with a .CA domain name – if you haven’t already registered a .CA , you can easily search for an available domain name on our website and register with one of our .CA certified Registrars. Applying for membership is easy, free and open to any .CA holder. Join our community today!
