From my perspective, CIRA is one of Canada’s key digital trust institutions. It manages the .CA domain on behalf of Canadians, but its role is broader than registry operations: CIRA helps protect the integrity, security, resilience and accessibility of Canada’s internet. Through its cybersecurity services, policy engagement, DNS expertise and community investment, CIRA supports an internet that Canadians can trust, use safely and see as part of Canada’s digital sovereignty.

I want to serve on CIRA’s Board because CIRA’s mission sits directly at the intersection of my professional experience and public-interest values. My career has focused on technology, cloud infrastructure, telecommunications, privacy, cybersecurity risk, governance, compliance and complex global transactions. As a former General Counsel, Corporate Secretary, Chief Privacy Officer and Data Protection Officer, I understand the importance of disciplined governance, risk oversight and practical execution in technology-driven organizations.

I would bring independent judgment, bilingual communication, board leadership and deep technology-sector experience. I am interested in helping CIRA continue to protect and strengthen Canada’s internet for members, registrants, businesses, communities and the public.

As Board Chair of the Canadian Children’s Opera Company, I helped strengthen governance during a period that required renewed strategic focus, disciplined oversight and strong board leadership.

I led the Board and Executive Committee while serving on the Nominations & Governance, Finance & Audit, and Strategic Planning Committees. During this time, I also completed coursework toward the GPC.D designation with Governance Professionals of Canada, reinforcing key governance principles: clear roles, effective board processes, risk-aware decision-making, accountability and long-term sustainability.

I applied those principles by helping the Board adopt more structured governance practices, including clearer committee leadership, stronger agenda-setting, better alignment between strategy and board discussions, improved preparation for decisions and greater focus on follow-through. I also supported the development and adoption of a multi-year strategic plan that established clearer organizational priorities and a stronger framework for oversight and decision-making.

The result was a stronger governance culture with clearer accountability, more engaged board participation, better strategic alignment and a more deliberate approach to risk and opportunity. The experience reinforced my belief that good governance is more than process—it creates clarity, trust, better decisions and stronger outcomes for the organization and the communities it serves.

CIRA’s next phase will require disciplined oversight of growth, resilience and trust. Its FY26-28 plan identifies the need to scale operations, technology and infrastructure efficiently, grow .CA and registry services, expand a lean enterprise-grade cybersecurity portfolio, and strengthen CIRA’s leadership in internet governance. CIRA also faces external pressures: AI-enabled cyber threats, rising infrastructure costs, geopolitical uncertainty, digital sovereignty concerns, DNS abuse and persistent digital divides.

My experience maps directly to those issues. I have worked at the executive level in cloud, SaaS, AI, data analytics, telecommunications infrastructure, cybersecurity risk, privacy, compliance and global commercial transactions. As General Counsel, Corporate Secretary, Chief Privacy Officer and Data Protection Officer, I supported executive and Board-level decision-making on governance, legal, regulatory and enterprise risk matters. I would bring that perspective to CIRA by helping the Board test strategy against execution risk, financial sustainability, member value, privacy and security obligations, operational resilience and long-term public-interest impact.

My current Governance Professionals of Canada coursework also reinforces my approach: good governance requires clear roles, strong processes, informed challenge, measurable outcomes and accountability. I would help CIRA pursue growth while protecting the trust Canadians place in .CA and Canada’s internet.
