Ottawa, ON – November 2, 2022 – CIRA is proud to announce that .nz, the country code top-level domain of Aotearoa New Zealand, is officially part of the CIRA Registry Platform family. The tailored infrastructure built in collaboration with InternetNZ, the organization in charge of .nz, will help operate more than 750,000 domains.
Based on the industry-leading registry solution powering the .ca domain name, this new and unique .nz infrastructure will still be managed from New Zealand by InternetNZ. Registrars will have access to an all-in-one web portal, advanced features, and a wide range of customer support capabilities.
The CIRA Registry Platform leverages 20-year expertise managing Canada’s domain to continue its mission to support online communities around the world, from Ireland with .ie to Sint Maarten with .sx as well .kiwi, .eco and other ccTLDs and gTLDS. Each new TLD contributes to the platform’s stability and strength benefiting from CIRA’s research & development.
“CIRA’s community-first mindset ensures that our TLD management platform is built to answer the needs, values and specifications of each partner. We are proud to have teamed up with .nz to build such a critical platform for New Zealand despite the constraints caused by the pandemic. We share common goals and a similar mission to create the necessary tools to make life online easier for everyone,” says Adam Eisner, General Manager of Registry Services at CIRA.
“It’s an incredible feeling and a great privilege to be at the beginning of a new chapter for .nz. Our partnership with CIRA was fully remote throughout the development and migration, proving yet again that the Internet connects people across the globe to deliver solutions for the public good. The new system enables us to provide critical infrastructure for New Zealand for years to come,” says InternetNZ Chief Executive, Vivien Maidaborn.
- The CIRA Registry Platform now manages more than 4.3 million domains across a variety of ccTLDs and gTLDs.
- Implemented during the pandemic, the development and migration to .nz’s new registry system was entirely remote making it a one-of-a-kind initiative.
- .nz is a world-class top-level domain which sets demanding standards for technology providers, particularly in the areas of interconnectivity, data analytics and security.
- The customizable platform provides TLDs with advanced features, functionality and stability for a secure infrastructure.
CIRA manages the .CA top-level domain on behalf of all Canadians. It also develops technologies and services—such as CIRA DNS Firewall and CIRA Canadian Shield—that help support its goal of building a better online Canada. The CIRA team operates one of the fastest-growing country code top-level domains (ccTLD), a high-performance global DNS network, and one of the world’s most advanced back-end registry solutions.
